It’s hard to believe that these heavy steel cars (#1370 in the photo, above, and #1371) at 109,000 lbs each, were capable of a cruising speed of 80 mph. This, I hear, was a regular occurance between Los Angeles and “San Berdoo”.
I find this fascinating. I am currently looking for #1370 in HO scale by Suydam/Orion. It would be a great addition to my brass scale traction model train collection.
