This group of 180 boys from the Pasadena YMCA will shortly be on their way to the 1924 opening of the movie Iron Horse at the Grauman Hollywood Egyptian Theatre, made possible by this lineup of Pacific Electric cars. The film was advertised by the studio as, “THE WEDDING OF THE RAILS! ONE OF AMERICA’S MOST THRILLING HISTORICAL DEEDS–THE DRIVING OF THE LAST SPIKE FOR THE TRANSCONTINENTAL RAILROAD.”

The routing of this train would have been something for a “rare mileage” enthusiast. One can imagine the Egyptian Theatre resounding to the sounds of a Mighty Wurlitzer (or even a live orchestra!) as the drama unfolded on the screen.
