On the Viaduct for Photos

February 24, 1957, on viaduct at Firestone Boulevard and Park Lane, sometime after leaving the 6th and Main Street Station, conveniently stopped so photographers could get a picture.

Here’s a photo of the location today with the Blue Line overpass replacing the viaduct.

Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority Blimp No. 312 heads southbound at the Lynwood station on January 28, 1956. Today this location is under the 105 Freeway; the station would be located under the right side, westbound on ramp.

The Lynwood depot was located on the Santa Ana Line in Lynwood on the corner of Long Beach Boulevard and Fernwood Avenue. The line ran from Watts to downtown Santa Ana. The entire line from LA to Santa Ana was 33 miles. The line launched in 1903 and ended May 25, 1958.

Fair Oaks and Colorado in May of 1946

Mount Lowe Preservation Society Archives, Jack Whitmeyer Collection

Standing in the middle of Colorado Boulevard, looking west, just east of Fair Oaks on May 12, 1946, L. T. Gotchy catches the Pacific Electric Railway ticket office on the left and the Owl Drug Store on the right. Note the intersection has not changed immensely, and it is still referred to as Route 66. Also note the bus on the left side, stopped just short of the intersection.
