Racing season was a great time for PE watching in Monrovia. On big race days, like the Handicap and the Derby, the Arcadia yard would fill up and the remaining trains would deadheaded to the far side of Monrovia. I noticed that the special trains had a round trip fare, so even if someone backed the wrong hayburners, he could still get back to LA.
