Looking battered and forlorn, Pacific Electric streetcar no. 374 rests outside the Pacific Electric and Southern Pacific Huntington Beach station.

This photo was most likely taken in 1940. That year beginning June 9, the day rail service was abandoned between Newport Beach and Balboa a Birney car made one daily trip from Naples Jct. in Long Beach to Balboa and return. That was the minimum service needed to hold the franchise. This maneuver lasted for only few months ending on November 18.
