It’s September 7, 1947, and the Railroad Boosters Trip #57 (Orange Empire) is well underway as Pacific Electric units nos. 1217, 1242, and 1375 are lined up at the Upland PE depot in this fantastic shot.

    That’s quite a “lashup”–a Portland Combine, a Long Beach Twelve and a Butterfly Twelve. By this time, everything east of Baldwin Park was freight only, and in another three or four years, all of these cars would be scrapped just about a dozen miles east of here at the Kaiser Steel plant.
