Mount Lowe Railway Golden Spike Tie Pin

The 1893 Golden Spike tie pin given to Thaddeus Lowe by his workers upon the opening of the Mount Lowe Incline Railway, July 4, 1893. This was one of Lowe’s prized possessions and comes via the estate of Thaddeus Lowe, Jr., and gifted to the Mount Lowe Preservation Society by Lowe’s heirs.

A group of Mount Lowe artifacts acquired over the year by Vic McVey, including a piece of a railroad tie from either the Alpine Division or One Man and a Mule Railway, a reproduction of the Mount Lowe Railway / Pacific Electric Railway logo, a sample section of the OM&M Railway narrow gauge track, a railroad spike, a piece of the overhead trolley wire, a square nail and copper wire. This piece will be in the upcoming show at the Pasadena Museum of History, running from August 18th through January 13.

An original Pacific Electric Railway advertisement, watercolor on board, stating “No traffic hazards or parking problem here,” making the point either the PE bus or the PE trolley is the way to get where you are going. This piece will be in the upcoming show at the Pasadena Museum of History, running from August 18th through January 13.

A nice shot taken by Ken Douglas in March of 1948. LATL had not put the Trolley Coach wires yet. That started about June of 1948. The B line was abandoned on Dec 5, 1948. I use to sit at the curb at this location for hours on end, watching the motorman change ends.
