As a newcomer to the PE story back then, I was as fascinated with the cover photo as I was with the record. Another record that I wore out was “Last of the Big Red Cars” that was put out by Stan Kistler.
At the time most of the whistles gave a steady low tone. We thought the squeal sound was from them wearing out, only years later learning it was intentional – thus the name Westinghouse Trombone. Once when photographing along the four tracks we met Stan Kistler making his sound recordings.
