1053 was one of eight Jewett cars PE bought from the Peninsular Ry. in San Jose (another SP property) in 1933. According to “Interurbans Special 36” these cars languished at Torrance Shops until 1937, when PE decided to refurbish them and assign them to the Alhambra-San Gabriel Line. The automobile in the photo is another clue: It’s a typical design of 1937 give or take a year.
