Residential trackage of the Pacific Electric in Pasadena, looking south and just in front of what was then the Huntington Hotel.

This would be looking southward in front of what was then the Huntington Hotel. One of the outlying buildings held a radio studio for KXLA, which in those days broadcast country & western (or as we said back then, hillbilly and cowboy) music, including live shows with Cliffie Stone’s Hometown Jamboree. One of my aunts took my brother and me to a broadcast; I remember a bit about the show, but what really stuck in my mind was the tiger-striped diesel switcher (probably a Baldwin) pulling a scrap train with rail from the recently abandoned Oak Knoll Line in late 1950.
