    I would love to know the story behind this picture.The 3 conductors look like they want to go, the motorman looks like he has no cares in the world. One wonders what the passengers were thinking.

    I would too! Lets do some guessing, maybe somebody else knows.
    The train is loaded, nobody on the ground but the crew, which rules out a fan trip. Where would a loaded special go that it would have to wait on double track? The answer may be a County Fairgrounds special waiting for an opposing train at the end of double track?

    I believe the first two PE steel cars are “Long Beach” and “Portland” cars.

    The underbody equipment, but nit the roofline, of car #3 is similar that of the lead car, PE 1241. Likewise, the equipment of car #4 matches that of PE 1262…so another 1252-class. The destination sign on 1262 appears to read “RE” and this would seem to make sense only as “REDLANDS”??.
