I would say that this photo was taken some time in 1948. The LATL bus in the photo is working the number 11-Adams Blvd. line. This was the “modern motor coach” replacement for the LARY A line. These buses were GM TDH-4506 models delivered to the new LATL in late 1946 and all of 1947. It was a 300 bus order. These buses were numbered in the 6100-6200-and 6300’s. Most of them lasted until about 1962. Many were retired in their LATL paint job with the LAMTA goose ege on their sides. I have bus #6339 in my collection.

OK Ralph, I have to ask. . .what shape is 6339 in?

The #6339 looks great, its 100% complete, but I don’t think it will ever run again under its own power, because the “Spicer” transmission is “out to lunch” and no one makes parts for it any longer. I have put 3 “good used” transmission into the #6339, but all of them failed, Unless I convert the #6339 to a stick shift, its going no place fast, “CORGI” made a model of the #6339 about 10 years ago. The last time it ran was about 7 or 8 years ago when it was used to dedicate a section of the Santa Monica Freeway to Rosea Parks. There were pictures of it in the LA Times.

Hey. . a TDM 6339 would get some attention. Nice to have a little history for a static display. Is it at the trolley museum?

100 coaches??? Now that’s a collection. You don’t own the 1937 Twin from Santa Catalina Island Compamy do you? I saw photos of that somewhere and I think it was somewhere out that way or maybe Riverside.

no, it was not from mine, The oldest Twin I have is a 1943 model from LANG TRANSPORTATION of Long Beach CA.

One of those that went to Sacramento? Sounds like you have some nice rides. More old transits seem to be restored back east then out here.

Most people using this website have an interest in trolleys. However, when examining the photo, there are several other objects we once took for granted and exist only in our memories:
    1. The ACME traffic signal about which much has been written.
    2. The mail storage box – mail for the remaining portion of the letter carrier’s route was stored here to relieve the letter carrier of having to carry this load for the entire route.
    3. The Richfield Gas Station, now replaced by ARCO.
    4. The ad for Barbara Ann bread on the back of the bench
