This is the Van Nuys Line, so named because the San Fernando Line went out in 1940 or 1941.

637 is preserved at Orange Empire, presently stored inoperable in Barn 7.

This is the Chandler Blvd/Vineland Avenue curve, view to the

southeast. The dual tracks are crossing Chandler Blvd and curving to the

west, to join with the SP Valley Branch Line…..which is to the north (left of

    photo) and out of view.

The photo shows the part of Chandler Blvd on the southside of the SPVBL,

ending at Vineland Avenue just beyond the tracks in the photo.

this is an unusual picture of a 600 class car as it has the original headlight and also has the red reflectors applied after WW2.

This train is signed for the San Fernando line.
If you expand the photo you can read “Canoga Park” as one of the stops on the dash sign.
The location here is Wilcox Ave., I believe.

I checked “Interurbans Special 21” and found that rail passenger service to Canoga Park ended in 1938. Could the top line on the dash sign be “Bus Connection?” Also, a recent Thomas Bros. map shows Wilcox Ave. to be in Hollywood, and the scene in the photo looks too rustic for that. Could there have been a Wilcox in the North Hollywood area that had its name change to something else to avoid confusion in those pre-ZIP-code days?

    OMG,

Is the Wilcox Avenue issue becoming a problem.

Perhaps there was a typo in the map or the notes at that time.

I searched in vain for a link to Wilcox Avenue in No. Hollywood on the IT

to no avail. The only Wilcox Avenue is the one in Hollywood.

OK Guy’s, I had heard the Wilcox Ave title sometime in the distant past.
The photo is on the Vineland Ave, Chandler Blvd. curve to the west toward North Hollywood.
Sorry for any confusion .. JimB

(At least) the south roadway of what is now Chandler, from Vineland west to Tujunga, was at different times in the past called both Margate Street, and prior to that, Wilcox Avenue:

Those street names also extended out in both directions in bits and pieces. Margate is still around, but the only two Wilcoxes within the city are AVENUE and PLACE, both over the hill in Hollywood
