Thanks so much for the great photo of Hollywood and Highland Ave. circa 1952. In 1948-49 I sold the Herald Express newspaper from that exact “street car safety zone” next to the Florist Shop. That was after school. I was ten or eleven years old at the time. I stood out there from 3:30PM to around 6:30PM. A lot of my customers were regular streetcar riders. The smog finally got the best of me and I was finding it hard to breath. I had to switch to delivering the Hollywood Citizen’s news. I had two routes next to each other just north of Hollywood Blvd. for a total of 156 papers. I made a profit of a penny per paper per day. Don’t laugh, that was good money back then. What a wonderful place Hollywood was in those days. Today it looks like an outdoor insane asylum. The only thing that hasn’t changed is Musso & Frank’s Grill.

Smalll world. I also had the C.Nws. route north of the Boulevard on both sides of the freeway, but a few years later. Good way to make back something on that investment in a bicycle while improving your pitching arm. But it sure seemed like 1000 papers on some days!! Handled a Herald route too for a while.
