This was an “almost last chance” photo. Passenger service on most of the line was abandoned about a week later, and this section quit in Oct. 1953. Note that the section from what is now the Blue Line to Figueroa St. is not part of the Expo Line revival. Also note the boxcar in the background. The Air Line remained in freight service (with diesel power) until some time in the 1980’s.

This was a spur from the PE main line at Acomo junction to a point at 37 street then along Exoosion Blvd to west LA ,Venices and Sanata Monica.
The Blue Line splits at Washington and the Expo line contunes south to Expo and 37 near USC where it will turn west to start the Expo line, you keep tack of changes.

The new system is following what was old. Blue Line (PE from LA to Long Beach. Red Line PE from LA to the Valley. GreenLine PE to the east Santa Ana/Bellflower Line to the west PE Torrance line The system should have been updated not taken out and the put back later to try to correct other mistakes throw money after money

The SP gave up freight service on this line in summer of 1988 or 1989. They held on to a short portion of track off of Amoco Junction for a customer right near Hooper. I don’t remember how long that lasted but all service west of Long Beach Bl. was gone by 1993.
