Pacific Electric freight locomotive no. 1626 poses next to PE interurban no. 1204, possibly somewhere on the Southern District. The latter’s destination board reads “Los Angeles.”

Anyone able to offer circa-date thoughts about this given the apparently short-lived pilot beam(s) safety stripes. Furthermore, are those white stripes on a black-painted beam or white/aluminum silver on a PE red-painted beam?

I think it’s white stripes on black paint. I recall seeing a few PE freight motors with this paint job on the Monrovia-Glendora Line in the 1940s. By the time diesels took over, the electric were nearly all in the SP “tiger stripes” scheme.
