The body of this car became a house in Baldwin Park, and was “liberated” in 1964 and preserved at Orange Empire. it is currently on display in Barn 4.
The “image date” should be changed; the autos in the background are from the late 1930’s and possibly 1940. This would have been after the car had been modified from a business car to a parlor car for service to Balboa as the “Commodore”. By then, all VIP assignments were handled by 1299.
Like the Commodore-Business car #1000, the steel car #1299 is also preserved at the OERM. But car #1299 is in far better shape than car #1000. The Commodore-Business car needs lots of restoration work to bring it back to it’s former glory.
PE #1299 is in running condition at OERM…it has always been.
PE 1299 comes out of the barn on special occasions, but does not run under its own power. It has been hauled by OERM’s “Blimps” which have the same couplers, but different control systems. The electrical system is complete, but as I recall, some of the wiring is deteriorated and not considered safe to energize. For now, the car may be called a “trailer”.
