This may have been in the 1946-48 period while the “Blimps” were being refurbished at Torrance. 1218 was updated around 1940 for the remaining San Bernardino service, but that was abandoned shortly afterward. The “Butterfly Twelves” were also seen on Monrovia-bound rush hour trains in the late 1940s. The high point of the day’s PE watching at 5th Ave. in Monrovia was the three-car train which might have a “Butterfly”, an “owl-face” Portland car and a Long Beach 1222-class.
