    As I recall, PE like most interurbans, used telephones rather than telegraph operators to communicate. Note the insulated platform for the conductor to stand on–a precaution in case the phone wires crossed with the 600 volt trolley supply. When I worked for Southern California Edison, we used hand-crank phones in some locations into the 1990s.

    Where is Border Junction? I grew up near Old Torrance, so I am very familiar with the area.
