1034 at the South Bay S Curve

Pacific Electric interurban no. 1034 passes through a South Bay S curve on its way to San Pedro. The destination sign reads “San Pedro via West Basin.”

This photo seems to be looking north somewhat; the water tower was on the north side of the sawtooth roofline building. That would put the harbor to the right of the photo and San Pedro to the left.

I’ve always loved to see how a train cants into a turn. And I often wondered how the train didn’t tip over. I guess the undercarriages being much heavier than the carbodies prevents the train from tipping over.

Someday, I will do a similar scene like this on an HO scale layout with superelevated tracks. I have a large collection of Suydam interurbans – including, at this writing, nine “Tens”.

I’ve always admired this image. PE no. 1034 looks great in this shot.

Mr Everett Neal, My dream is to build a model railraoad based around the Pacific Electric towards the end. Hollywood cars and PCCs. Do you have any information on how to track down where one might find any of these cars. I love all the rest too but have to start somewhere. steeple cabs would be nice also.

Mr. Hicks, my two favorite sources for obtaining Suydam brass traction models and other model railroad equipment and accessories are eBay.com and brasstrains.com. I have Hollywood cars and PCCs in my collection, too.

I also have a steeple cab. I love these equipment – both the real-life ones and the Suydams. But, I’m an interurban guy (“Tens”, “Twelves”, “Elevens”, 950s, 800s, 500s, etc).

By the way, there’s a Suydam/Orion Steeple Cab no. 1624 up for grabs on eBay right now (unpainted). It looks to be in excellent condition. I think the auction ends tomorrow – Sunday. I hope you see this message in time and check it out.
