Pacific Electric interurban no. 999 crosses a wooden trestle as it heads towards Pasadena with an ominous sky developing overhead.

This is on the Sierra Madre Line, not far from today’s Pasadena High School. The trestle spans Eaton Wash, and on the north side of Sierra Madre Blvd, out of sight behind the embankment, is Edison’s Eaton Substation, which (if I remember correctly) was an emergency feed to the PE Altadena Sub. I’m reasonably sure the photo was from an excursion around 1949; 999 was more likely to be seen on the Western District. There was a fund drive to save this car, but it fell short and was scrapped along with the other LA Pacific handmedowns.

This is a stunning, moody shot of 999 crossing that wooden trestle. I like it.

I wonder if 999 was the only 900-class interurban to have the 5-window ends.
