Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA, ex-Pacific Electric) no. 1815 moves along San Pedro Street (at 8th Street) as part of a railfan special; according to Alan Weeks, railfans would often use whatever destination sign they liked; in this case – Santa Anita Race Track service. This image dates to the late 1950s.

    Hi
Trip had nothing to do with Santa Anita race trains. This was a Rail
Fan Special. Railfan Specials used any signs they wanted. The car
is southbound on San Pedro St. at 8th St.

Indeed! The last Santa Anita Special ran in March 1951; by the time the “hayburners” returned on Dec. 26, the railway was being torn up. MTA 1815, however, is still around; renumbered back to PE 717, it was running last weekend as part of Pacific Electric Days at Orange Empire.
