This photo was taken on the eastern edge of Duarte, just before the car crossed the San Gabriel River at Puente Largo. The building in the background on the left was probably H&M Banana Co., which had a phone number very close to that of my parents’ phone (EL8-4597 instead of 5497). The banana warehouse outlasted the railway by a few years; the area is all residential now. The car has electric markers and “Daylight” stripes, and does not have Eclipse fenders, marking this photo as mid to late 1940’s
The caption should read “Azusa and Glendora”. The car is a few miles east of Monrovia, and as far as I know, no 1100 ever went to Glendale (unless it was for a one-off railfan excursion–1111 did visit Hollywood on a fantrip, but I’ve seen no photos of it in the Glendale-Burbank area)

Sorry, that’s about it for my knowledge of H&M Bananas. I thing the building was dismantled about the time I moved to Duarte in 1960; I remember when the foundation was all that was left. My next association with bananas came when I worked at Johnson Music in downtown Monrovia and sold copies of “Day-O, the Banana Boat Song” by Harry Belafonte.
