1126 Passes Arcadia Tower

Pacific Electric interurban no. 1126 crosses the diamond at Arcadia Tower on its way to Glendora, possibly in 1941.

This photo would be from the 1940s–the PE car has the “racing stripe” and the electric markers from the early-40s refurbishing, and the auto on St. Joseph St. is at least a 1941. Today, the tower is gone, but the Santa Fe depot survives at the LA County Fairgrounds in Pomona. If all goes well, in the not-too-distant future, this location will see electric railway service again, only it will follow the Santa Fe route to a station off the right side of the photo.
This picture looks east down E. St. Joseph St. Electrical connections and the area of the tower base were identifiable in the 90s. I stood in this location and visualized the picture here. The outline of the foundation of
the old railroad station visible to the right of the tower was discerable in the 90s as well. The area of the right-of-way in front of PE car 1126 is still
visible today as it cuts across and between some very old storage sheds
that were used by Arcadia lumber or some supply company. The outline
of the PE double tracks can be seen today buried beneath the asphalt
surface covering on E. St. Joseph St. Small cracks give away the location
of the old tracks probably still buried in the road.
There might be some ties left under the pavement, but I’m sure the rails are long gone. The line was abandoned in 1951, during the Korean War, and in wartime, scrap iron prices go up quickly.
