Looks like the same contraption that pulled the rails out of Olive Ave. in Monrovia about a year later. Note that this was after the Korean War had started, raising the price for scrap iron.
The photo was taken looking east down Colorado Blvd, As the Broadway department store was located on the northwest corner of Los Robles ave and Colorado Blvd back in those days. In the foreground is the great old F.W. Woolworths five and dime store ( Who remembers that phrase?). In the background the signage of the star news bldg can be seen on the roof. Walking home from Wm.Mckinley jr high in the afternoon, my friends and I would
shortcut through the Broadway because it was air conditioned inside, and take a few rides up and down on the elevator, which moved so fast that you could get pretty good hang time up in the air on the way down!
A bit off topic, but the last Woolworth’s store I ever shopped in was in Media PA, where the former Red Arrow electric suburban railway ran right by the store, and terminated about a block away. This was in June 1990, in this case the store is probably long gone, but the trolley line is still running.
