Flawless!
Beautiful color photo! Those are hard to one by in good shape from that time period.
From the date, this was the last trip the PE superintendent made on the Eastern District under wire, as the passenger service was discontinued East of Covina and the Fairgrounds in 1940, and the freight service was being converted to diesel at that time, so the power could be turned off to save money.
There is another excellent color picture of the 1299 crossing Claremont Tower a little earlier on the same trip, posted on the SP Survivors web site.
I thought the entire Euclid Avenue line was abandoned and bustituted by the late 1920s. Could 1299 be heading eastbound on the San Bernardino line crossing Euclid?
Judging from the signs pointing to the downtown area, this car is headed south on Euclid at 11th St.
there was a packing house just east of Euclid Ave reached by this last piece of track that branched of the San Berdo line; It was maybe a block or two long.
Are there any color shots of this car or other red cars rolling thru Gardena?
A specific answer to Harry, as Dennis and Ralph say, there was about half a mile of track left in the middle of Euclid Ave from the San Berdoo line South across the Santa Fe.(which is now Metrolink)
This track served a citrus packing shed, and Snake River Lumber Co. until about 1976.
The track in the median of Euclid was salvaged by OERM volunteers in 1975-76. It was a major project and provided many stories for OERM “remember when” sessions.
This picture of 1299 is prior to crossing 9th street down the center of Euclid Avenue.
The Business district of downtown Upland was on 9th street east of this picture location.
I used to see the SP switcher hauling lumber to the local yards growing up here on the same track going east to west (Now Bike Path). They then came down via a switch from east and west line below Arrow Hwy on the Euclid Avenue center line on the old PE line and then SP,then crossed the diamond of the Santa Fe south of 9th Street to service Citrus and lumber yards.

Just below this picture is the diamond intersection with the west to east now currently Metro link ROW (OLD BNSF ROW) below 9th street. The diamond intersection has been gone for 30-40 years due to PE path now bike path.
