This scene appears to be at the (compass) north, or Inbound home signal of the SP crossing at Bloomington, as all PE schedules at that time were either Inbound or Outbound in relation to Los Angeles. The trolley pole
is up on this end indicating the car is headed away from the photographer.

Interurbans Special #16, Part 2, Pg. 38 has a picture of car 106 sitting at the same location however the photographer of 106, Jack Whitmeyer, had moved to point where the signal and phone booth to contact the Bloomington Tower operator can plainly be seen. In this Alan Weeks Collection view the eave and one corner of the booth can bee seen peeking around 1214’s step on the right side. According to the Ray Younghans map of this line, The track to the right leads to the SP-PE transfer track.

      Again citing the Interurbans source,
passenger service on this Rialto Jct. to Riverside segment, known as the Crestmore line, ended on June 9, 1940 and the last franchise car ran on November 18, 1940.
1214 is headed to Rialto where it will likely be added to the rear of an Inbound train headed to Los Angeles.

The present day location of that photo is at the east end of the West Colton receiving yard.
