In this photo, you can see the trolley wire protector that spans the overhead. These protectors were everywhere there was streetcar or trolley coach overhead. Believe it or not, the last one I saw was a left over from the LARY L line spanning the Olympic Blvd. at Country Club Drive. It was removed a few years ago. I have not seen any since. This image is from Heliotrope.

This photo was takrn in 1947 just before the LATL abandoned the H line. The abandonbment of the H line was met with much anger from the passengers that rode the line, and from LA City Council-man Kenith Haughn. Today, the Hollywood Freeway crosses over Heliotrope Blvd. at this very location.

One last note about Kenneth Hahn (correct spelling from reply above). During his 40 years on the City Concil, he was a VERY pro-rail transit. He tryed to stop the H line abandonment, and he was very vocal against the 1963 LAMTA abandonments of the 5 PCC rail lines. As he put it, the streetcars “policed the flow of auto traffic” on the narrow streets over which they operated. He pointed out Vernon Ave as one example. He did his best right up until 3-31-63.
