Jim Baker correctly identified the location as the new loop at Jefferson and 10th Ave on the J line. The waiting shelter had not been istalled yet. The #1432 in facing north and is about to turn onto Jefferson Bl. and head east.

Was there a gas storage tank in that neighborhood? I don’t remember one being off of Jefferson. Plus, was there not a two story brick building on that side of the yard where we see the tank? Many photos of this area show a building on the west side of this property. One of Bill Whytes photos clearly shows a building on the west end of the property. What about the loop in Huntington Park? Does that fit anyone’s recollections?

There used to be a gas storage expandable tank at approximtely Exoisition and 11th Ave, near the PE Santa Monica Air Line. In this photo, it looks like the tank is a little closer than I would think from that location to the Jefferson loop. However, the only orher gas storage facility near a LARY turning facility was the one at 7th and Alameda, and the facilities in this photo look more like the Jefferson & 10th Ave loop. This loop also has a passing siding inside the loop which is visiblle in this photo.

I have one question regarding loops on LARY – with the 3 line being equipped with single ended PCC’s, how were the cars turned at he east end of the 3 ine? I know that a wye was used at Larchmont and Melrose on the west end. Also, the east end near 6th and Central was more congested with traffic making a wye impractical, so was there a loop, and if so, where was it?
